Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat is one of the most famous video game franchises in the world. Anyone who has ever played video games has more than likely played a mortal kombat game. This game is famous for its epic fights, characters, and grotesque fatalities.

So of course when the trailer for the movie came out everyone had really high hopes. And in my opinion, the movie did not let us down.

The movie features all of the famous characters Such as Sonya Blades (Jessica Mcnamee), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Kano (Josh Lawson), etc. This movie also introduced a new main character Cole Young played by Lewis Tan. This is an interesting choice considering Liu Kang has always been considered the main character or "chosen one".

There are a lot of things that this movie does right when it comes to bringing the game to life. Those things being picking the right actors for the characters. The fight scenes were cool and really felt like Mortal Kombat. The character designs were good when it comes to bringing them into the real world. Both Scorpion and Sub-zero's appearance were awesome and were definitely my favorite.

The gore was over the top, meaning it was absolutely perfect. Mortal Kombat is known for having very gruesome fights that include limbs being ripped off or bodies being absolutely ripped in half. This movie did not disappoint in this department and I was there for it (even if I had to look away sometimes). Lastly, famous phrases such as "flawless victory" and Scorpions "get over here" were put in the movie. Many people might have thought this was cheesy, but I loved it.

Now let's get into what the movie sorely lacked. A great story and great acting. The plot of the movie was just underwhelming and lackluster. But nobody really cared about the story of the actual video game so why care now? (At least I didn't when I played it). When it comes to the acting it is very awkward, cringy, and stale in places.

But what is lacking in this area is made up of the fight scenes, Kano's comedy, and the overall nostalgia. So while it wasn't the best movie It was still very enjoyable.

If you are a Mortal Kombat fan or just a video game fan, in general, I definitely recommend you watch this movie.
